THE ENGLISH MUSIC FESTIVAL 22-25th May 2009

DORCHESTER ABBEY & RADLEY COLLEGE OXFORD

The English Music Festival is an exciting project that celebrates Britain’s rich musical heritage by showcasing the brilliance, innovation and beauty of English music. As well as commissioning accessible new works in the English tradition, the EMF is devoted to keeping important works by major British composers in the repertoire, and to resurrecting the many forgotten gems by a host of lesser-known composers. The Festival takes place between 22nd - 25th May, with concerts throughout each day at Dorchester Abbey and Radley College, Oxford.

Highlights include a Delius premiere, Bax's 2nd Piano Sonata, Vaughan Williams' 'Willow Wood', James Bowman singing rare songs, 'Farewell to Stromness' by Peter Maxwell Davies, and Holst's 'Hymns from the Rig Vega'.
